Love It or Hate It -- December 8

When I was a little girl, I had what was called, for reasons I cannot comprehend, a monkey jacket. It was a little long-haired white faux fur cropped jacket with ribbing around around the bottom and at the cuffs. I loved that jacket -- I felt super-cool when I was wearing it and was sad when I outgrew it (especially because that meant I had to hand it down to my bratty little sister, who'd gotten a pink one when I got my white one and then got to enjoy mine after that -- SO unfair). I haven't thought of it for years, but it came to mind when I saw this

So while part of me has warm feelings for this because it reminded me of my long-ago monkey, the other part thinks that it looks a little like an old ratty gorilla costume that's been rented by too many frat boys on Halloween.

Love It or Hate It?

So I was toodling around on ssense.com the other day when I found this:

Designers Remix Heart Dress

My first thought was, Oh, how fun! My second thought was, Oh, how tragic! I mean, I know people are going to shriek about emphasizing the danger areas and all that, but my feeling is that the shape of this is so very over the top that no one would ever mistake that for the wearer's actual hips. So I do think the playing with proportion is kind of fun. I loathe the color, of course, and my first instinct was to think it ought to be red (which is my usual go-to color), but I guess that would be a little obvious, wouldn't it? Heaven knows I admire a lot of risky fashion, On the other hand, this lacks the kind of intelligent wit that you find in work by people like Rei Kawakubo.
