Amen, Sisters

Can I get a witness from my Curvy Girl Congregation? Amen, sisters, I have finally found some jeans that fit! Lift up your hearts and SING!!!

This weekend I took myself to Macy's in search of some jeans. I don't wear jeans very often, but there are times when they really are a necessity, and right now I don't really have any that fit. The tag on these read 529 -- Curvy Jean. Which sounded exactly like what I need and boy howdy, they are.

You'll notice that the front of the waist is a lot lower than the back. This is a good thing. This creates this effect:

which is very important for us curvy girls. For those of us with comparatively small waists and larger hips, the low-rise jean can be the bane of our existences, because of the gapping in the back of the waist. To get them to hang right you usually wind up cinching them so tightly with a belt that there are folds of fabric squashed at your waist, creating the dreaded paper-bag effect (never chic). Or you just have to make sure you always sit with your back to the wall because otherwise -- did someone call a plumber? But these ingenious babies solve this problem with a little extra rise in the rear, while still being low enough in front to look hip.

Because no one wants this:

I found these Levi's 529s at macys.com, and the best part was that they're on sale! A measly $34.99! Truth be told, I'm a miser about jeans. Sure, I'll drop obscene amounts of money on shoes, but I just can't bring myself to do the high-end jean thing. It is possible to spend upwards of $300 on a pair of jeans these days, and I'm sorry -- for that kind of money those things had better come with the liposuction that will allow me to actually fit into them.

A weird little caveat: Always try on every single thing you buy before you purchase. I bought two pairs of these in two different washes (dark blue and black) and the black ones are a size up from the denim, despite being the same make & model & fiber content. Go figure.

How about you guys? What kinds of jeans are you wearing these days? Which ones do you love?

I hear ya about the gap in the back. I can't wear low-rise, but love a cut that hits just below the waist. The best two brands for me right now are Not Your Daughter's Jeans from Nordstrom and French Dressing, which I've purchased from Travelsmith. The NYDJ's are usually around $98, and come in several cuts and colors/washes. The French Dressing jeans I believe were around $60. I'm with you on really expensive jeans though. Everyone kept recommending Paige jeans to me, so I went to their store on Robertson. Tried on every pair in the store and the fit was just horrible. Plus, they're JEANS, people...not worth $300 no matter which celebutaunt is wearing them.

My best friend has similar issues & in college I used to watch with fascination as she had to cinch in the waist of all her jeans. I was green with envy that she could cinch ANYTHING in because I have the opposite problem. I am straight up & down--no hips, small rear, no thighs but a flabby midsection. Do you think there are jeans made for females with no hips? No, there are not.
So, who do they make jeans for anyway, who are their models?? I wear mine way past their expiration date because going into the dressing room with 25 pairs of jeans (I grab every style I can find) and not finding a single one that fits is so discouraging. I feel like a circus freak. The last pair of jeans I bought was *gasp* Wranglers and they fit great. At the age of 42 I finally discovered I have the body of a cowboy.

I'm loving Gap's Long and Lean jeans. I am neither long nor lean and have received lots of compliments.

Plus they are pretty inexpensive too.

Well Cowboy you have a friend! I have the body of a small boy, which is were I usually get my jeans. When I tell people I have 33" hips they drop open their mouths. Yet I do not tell them I have almost that in the waist as well Eek. I by a high end pr in many sizes to big to fit my waist(not my Hips or lack of). then have them taken in by a tailor all down the butt and legs. After doing all that my jeans are like gold to me! LOL YES wrangers do fit the boy type figure, better than some. Body types like mine do not own many pairs of jeans.
Grr .. it is usless to even expect to buy off the rack.
Any one wishing to make millions of dollars? Please make a jean for the boy body type women! Also do not expect we also have small chests says me with a big chest EEK. I should have married a tailor!
And Spy, men love ratio, from hip to waist ,oh blessed one ...LOL..k

The sizing of expensive jeans is usually more consistent, because they are usually cut individually. By hand.
Inexpensive jeans are cut by machine in a big denim stack. The denim is heavy, and the blade curves out as it goes in, making the bottom of the stack almost a size larger than the top of the stack. Style number and fiber content aside.

Deja -- I've heard of the NYDJ, but I was a little put off by the name, which makes them sound like, well, mom jeans. Not so?

Carin -- I don't know who the hell they're making them for. No doubt some woman out of a comic book or a Philip K. Dick novel.

Poochie -- will duck into the Gap. I could use some help with the long & lean myself.

K -- I don't mind a little junk in my trunk, I just don't want to haul around a whole storage shed worth! But yes, I think you're right, men do like a bit of curve on a woman.

anon- I never thought about that, but it makes a great deal of sense. Still, at the $35 I just paid for the Levi's vs. $180 for something like Earnest Sewn or that ilk, I'll just go ahead and do some extra trying-on!

Yes, the name is unfortunate, but they don't look like the ones in the video! They have boot cuts, flares, straight leg styles. I was wearing a dark indigo boot cut pair the other week and one of the younger women in my office complimented them as being very stylish.
