French In Action

Oh, mon dieu...

Photobucket

Would you LOOK at those? Seriously, I feel a little faint beholding these footwear wonders. Good googly-moogly, those are amazing. Givenchy? And please note the surface they're standing on. Trust me, Carrie Bradshaw's got nothing on ces dames, because I assure you that the sidewalks of New York are like a roller rink compared to Paris' cobblestones. Click on the photo to be taken over to the wonderful Style and the City -- Paris blog, where dear Kamel shoots amazing pictures of people on the Parisian street, including a whole raft of amazing shoes that were attending the fashion shows of Couture Week. Really swoony.

Oooooooh, I miss Paris...

Those might be the ugliest, most uncomfortable-looking shoes I've seen all week... That lady's toes are not happy.

gauss -- you say tomato...

Wow, it's bothering me that I can't figure out the label on those shoes...

The ones to the right (just out of frame) are definitely the Givenchy gladiator booties. In the back, I see some Louboutins, and those black pumps with the corsetted vamp look vaguely Valentino. And I think the male to the left may be wearing Dior Homme boots, if I can judge by the height of the heel.

Billy -- I'm so glad there are other people like me who obsess over these things! My guess is that the shoes are Givenchy, and just didn't make it on to the runway. Things often get tweaked between show & production.

OK, I'll bite - HOW did that women GET INTO those shoes in the foreground of that picture? Hmm? Or, does the shoe emporium employ some sort of podiatrist cum shoemaker-welder who permanently fastens them to the purchaser's feet? And then, when they want a different pair of shoes, or they break a heel(or an ankle, more likely), they have to go back to the store and get them surgically removed?

I'm saying tomato like gauss. But I never got those half-cowboy boot- half shoe things either.

I do like and wear high heels, but those are a bit extreme... Looking at those makes me think about the pain that woman must be suffering and not about their beauty... I hope she has at least two layers of Foot Petals inside those shoes.
I`m afraid that Bratislava`s sidewalks are even worse than those in Paris.

Wow! So chic! I am going to Paris in October for the first time. I doubt I will be even attempting any shoes like that. Do you have any comfortable yet stylish walking shoe suggestions?

toby -- LOL. I think there are zippers up the back, just FYI. But I can honestly think of worse punishments than to be stuck in those for a while.

benvenuta -- They're not necessarily agonizing. There are heels in the world that are fairly comfortable, and all of us have different pain thresholds. I have a LOT of high-heeled shoes, but there's really none in my wardrobe that I can't stay in comfortably for at least a few hours. You learn to recognize the ones that are going to be torture devices when you're trying them on, and leave them in the store.

Bratislava sounds sooooo romantic, unruly sidewalks & all...

Apart from the incredible shoes, it looks like coral coloured polish is fashionable - am I right?

Spy, do you use Foot Petals? Or any other inserts? I discovered Foot Petals via Plumcake`s blog and they`re great. They are worth the price even including the shipping from the US. I gave some Kushionz to my mother and now she wants more! Ebay, here I come.

ben -- I use cushions in some of my heels, but not all of them need them. But yes, they are a great idea.
